Nannie's Pound Cake

I bought a new cookbook, Texas Eats by Robb Walsh. I knew it would be a cookbook that my husband would love. It's full of seafood (shrimp and oyster) recipes along with other Texas specialties. There are so many dishes that I would love to be munching on right NOW! But, among all of the main dish recipes, I found a pound cake recipe, Nannie's Pound Cake, that I just had to try.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Even though it's officially spring now, this is the coolest weekend we've had here in Georgia in a while. Green leaves are peeking out everywhere and the azaleas are in full bloom. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

I baked a pound cake yesterday and I'll try to get the post up soon. I can't wait to see what you've been up to this week. Easter treats are in full swing!

Sweet Onion Casserole

This is another recipe from Gooseberry Patch's Simple Shortcut Recipes. Sweet Onion Casserole is in the "Fast-Fix Sides and Breads" chapter. I was attracted to this recipe because I love onions and I'm fortunate to live in an area close to Vidalia, Georgia so we have access to plenty of sweet onions. My husband loves stuffing so any recipe that calls for stuffing as one of its ingredients must be tried in our house. This casserole is delicious and is the perfect side dish for chicken or pork. I served it with baked chicken and roasted asparagus.

Sweet Indulgences Sunday #47

It's been a great weekend so far! Last night, we took the kids to a Japanese restaurant for dinner. I got to run into World Market and shop in a little peace while my husband and kids relaxed on one of the couches. I bought a cool aluminum cake carrier that is so retro! I love it. I also picked up a feature spring kitchen accessories.

Then, today, I received my order of spices from the Mystic Blue Spice Company. I ordered some orange seasoning salt and cilantro lime sea salt. Both smell amazing! I'm also looking forward to using the lavender sugar I bought to make some shortbread cookies.

Hope you're all having a good weekend and spending valuable time with your families. I can't wait to see what you've cooked up this week.

Baking Resolutions, Part II

Yes, I remember that some of you had some baking resolutions and, because we're almost through with the first quarter of 2012, I thought it was time to give you a little more inspiration with four baking cookbooks.

The Experiment Publishing

One of the biggest food trends going today is whoopie pies. There are several cookbooks out there devoted to the subject. I was fortunate to review The Whoopie Pie Book by Claire Ptake which is published by The Experiment.

Sweet Indulgences Sunday #46

Hello! Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. We're about to go over to my parents for a Low Country Boil. It's my brother and his wife's birthday weekend. I made a chocolate pound cake and a slightly disappointing jello mold. But, what jello mold isn't disappointing, right? I guess...But, I know where I went wrong so that's half the battle.

I've loved looking at all of the cute rainbow and green-themed recipes that are on all the blogs this week. So, so creative and sweet! Can't wait to see what you've been working on this week!

Simple Shortcut Recipes Cookbook

Are you like me? Are you tired of looking at cookbooks and seeing recipes that take up an entire page or, worse, more than one page with long lists of ingredients that will require a trip to the grocery store and also blocking out a period of time on your schedule so that you can actually prepare the dish? Those kinds of recipes are interesting to read but are impractical for the most part. I don't have the time or motivation to pull off those elaborate recipes and I'm guessing that you don't either.

Sweet Indulgences Sunday #45

March has finally arrived. It's been an unusually warm winter here in Georgia. And, yesterday was very stormy so I stayed home and cooked and baked all day. I had to load the dishwasher twice with all of the cooking, but it was still a good day.

I'm happy to be able to share a dessert with you this week. I've been baking all along but not a lot has been blog-worthy. I really need to nurse my blog a little more. It's been feeling neglected lately. I don't make a lot of layer cakes but I was inspired when I saw this recipe for Caramel Cake. It was worth the effort. Let's check out your efforts this week.

Caramel Cake

Gosh, I haven't posted a recipe in forever! It's high time for me to get back into the groove and I can't think of a better way than with a wonderful scratch cake from Southern Living. I've never made a Caramel Cake before but I've admired them for years like a child with her nose pressed against the counter at a candy store. If you like caramel, you'll love this cake. If you pralines, you'll love this cake. And, if you like cake, you'll love this cake. Also, if you like cookbooks, you'll love Southern Living's Comfort Food - A Delicious Trip Down Memory Lane from Oxmoor House, copyright 2009.
