Shrimp Destin

Father, can you hear me?  Last week, I posted a recipe from my new cookbook, Southern Living Heirloom Recipe Cookbook. Apparently, Chicken a la King doesn't generate a lot of buzz in the blogging world. Humbug! But, I will move forward, unoffended. I'm going to continue showing this cookbook some love because I think it deserves it. This time, I've chosen a shrimp dish that I know will generate some excitement, Shrimp Destin. This dish produces a rich broth which needs to be savored. Sharing this with someone special is the perfect way to celebrate the weekend.

Sweet Indulgences Sunday #23

September is birthday month in my family. Both of my parents along with four of my cousins have birthdays in September. Today is my birthday. I haven't planned anything special. I've already cooked breakfast and started laundry, the usual weekend tasks. I bought the new Taste of Home Best Holiday Recipes last night so I'm looking forward to squeezing in some quality reading time this afternoon.

I thought I would do something a little different this week. In addition to your dessert recipes, you can link up any other dishes that you choose. I know that a lot of you post more than just desserts so I would like you to share them here this week. Hope everyone is having a great day and is enjoying the first official fall weekend. I know I am.

Going Old School: Chicken a la King

New Cookbook: Old School Recipe

So, I've got a new cookbook. Are you surprised? Hey now, I am very selective about adding to my cookbook collection. I dig around the internet for sneak peeks, trying to determine whether the book will enhance my collection or simply take up space on the bookshelf. This cookbook, Southern Living Heirloom Recipe Cookbook, was on my Amazon wish list for a long time. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I adore it already and I've only had it a couple of weeks. It is the kind of cookbook that, as I looked through it, I thought, "This is the kind of cookbook that I would write." If I had an agent...and a contract. (Please contact me if you would like to assist me with this!)

Gooseberry Patch's Tiny Tips: Big Review and Giveaway

Are you like me? Do you sit down with your Gooseberry Patch cookbooks and read only the tips at the bottom of the pages? I like to do that. It's part of my process when tackling a new Gooseberry Patch cookbook. My first read through the cookbook is recipes only. My second viewing is for tips only. I like to savor the two sections individually. I'm just quirky like that!

So, when I found out that Gooseberry Patch was starting a new series named Tiny Tips, I was intrigued. What wondrous information could be contained within these pages? Fortunately, I was given a sneak peek into two of these books and I'm going to share some inside information here.

Sweet Indulgences Sunday #22

A cold front moved in yesterday and we're having a nice chilly morning here in Georgia. I have some steaks and shrimp thawing for a nice dinner on our patio this evening. I also have some butter softening on my counter because I feel some kind of baking is in order, too.

We're half way through September already. I've started slowly decorating for fall. My boys are already starting discussions about what they'll be for Halloween. I'm planning which fall treats I'll be creating for the blog and my column. So, it's an exciting time of the year filled with beautiful weather and fun anticipation. What are you doing to welcome fall?

Butterfinger Blondies

Nobody better lay a finger on my Butterfinger Blondies. Yes, I'm a copy cat sometimes. Sometimes, I see a recipe on another blog and I can't stop thinking about it. That's what happened when I saw this recipe for Butterfinger Blondies on Six Sisters' Stuff. The only thing I needed to purchase to make these dream bars a reality was some Butterfinger candy bars. The other ingredients were already in my pantry. It's funny how one little ingredient can turn a simple dessert into an amazing one. You must make these...you must!

Sweet Indulgences Sunday #21

We've actually had beautiful fall-like weather here in southeast Georgia this week. Mornings were in the 60's and the highs were in the 80's. The skies were a crisp blue and there was a cool, gentle breeze. I wanted to bottle it up and save it forever. We're expecting rain on Sunday so the humidity will return with the heat. It couldn't last forever but that just makes us treasure it even more.

The weather has put me even more in the baking mood. Yesterday afternoon, I purchased the ingredients to make several different desserts. It will be interesting to see how many I actually pull off this weekend. Hope everyone is having a great weekend and I can't wait to see what you've been up to this week! I know it will be something delicious!

Snickerdoodle Brownies

Sometimes, I run across a recipe that makes me stop what I'm doing, run into my kitchen, and take an inventory of ingredients. This was one of those recipes. I found it on a blog hop on Let's Get Cookin'. I did get cookin and then I got to eatin. These Snickerdoodle Brownies are everything I hoped for and more. They have the dense, chewy texture of a brownie but the cinnamon goodness of a snickerdoodle. This is as close to a homemade cinnamon roll that I've ever come to baking. They are now a permanent part of my life...and hips.

Sweet Indulgences Sunday #20

Labor Day weekend, how I have waited for you since the 4th of July weekend! I'm so glad you're here. Three days away from work...what will I do? First, I slept late this morning mostly as a result from some cold meds I took last night, but still...it was some good sleep.

We're planning a trip to Beaufort, SC this afternoon. My husband has a BBQ restaurant on his mind so we're going to give it a visit. I'm just happy to have him home from his long work stretch and to be able to get out of the house and enjoy a family meal together. What are your plans for the long weekend?
