King Arthur Flour Project: Basic Whole Grain Cookies

Basic Whole Grain Cookies

I'm trying to cover all of my bases with this whole grain baking project that I've been doing using products from King Arthur Flour. I thought that baking cookies using whole grains such as white whole wheat flour and oatmeal would be a good starting point. These cookies could have been made with or without chips, but I just had to add some milk chocolate chips to mine.

I found the recipe for Basic Whole Grain Cookies on the King Arthur Flour web site: www.kingarthurflour.com. As you can see, the recipe calls for two cups of add-ins which could be chips, nuts, or dried fruit. I knew my kids would love the chocolate chips and they did. I left my oatmeal whole, not grinding them in a food processor as was optional in the recipe.

My older son ate more than his share of these yesterday. I don't think they'll make it through the night. I made them larger than the recipe called for which is my typical baking style. I got about two dozen large cookies instead of five dozen smaller ones.

Don't they look delicious?

For those of you who want to take the baking journey with me, there is help for us all. King Arthur Flour has a Baking Hotline with wonderful experts who can help us if we have recipe questions or get stuck with something. Call (800.827.6836), email (bakers@kingarthurflour.com) or even chat live online (http://www.kingarthurflour.com/)! Let's take the bread journey together!

Disclaimer: King Arthur Flour provided me with a copy of the cookbook, Whole Grain Baking, and the flour, but the opinion expressed here is my own.
